Yes, it is. However, text edit can be used for plane text too. Here's how:
- Open text edit with a new file, or load a file you have already created.
- Type your code or what ever you want to type.
- Press cmd shift T, or select the option in the format menu on the menu bar to 'make plane text'.
- Go into the save as dialog, and type the file name, with the extention for example index.php or contact.php
- Press the save button.
- If you get a dialog box, asking if you want to keep .txt or use .php, click "use .php" and text edit will remember your choice.
