If you use a mac for web design, you'll definetly, at some pint, need a plane text editor for coding. 'Text Edit' comes to mind... but wait! Isn't text edit a rich text editor?

Yes, it is. However, text edit can be used for plane text too. Here's how:

  1. Open text edit with a new file, or load a file you have already created.
  2. Type your code or what ever you want to type.
  3. Press cmd shift T, or select the option in the format menu on the menu bar to 'make plane text'.
  4. Go into the save as dialog, and type the file name, with the extention for example index.php or contact.php
  5. Press the save button.
  6. If you get a dialog box, asking if you want to keep .txt or use .php, click "use .php" and text edit will remember your choice.
